Robert W. Lane

Judge Lane has been a 5th District Court Judge for over 25 years.

Judge Lane graduated from Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada, in 1977. He served 6 ½ years in the U.S Navy as a submarine electrician on the USS Barbel SS-580 out of Hawaii and did a WestPac to Japan, Korea and more. He served as a chaplain’s assistant at an isolated duty station in Newfoundland, Canada, and Long Beach, CA. After leaving the Navy, he served a church mission in Ontario, Canada.

He then attended UNLV for two years overloading credits each semester, and graduating with honors with a bachelor of science degree, and while also working full time as an administrative assistant for U.S Senator Chic Hecht; as Clark County and UNLV Young Republican Chair; as UNLV Elections Board Chair; and as a weekly columnist for the UNLV school paper. He then attended the University of Utah Law School overloading credits to graduate early in 2 ½ years during which he worked as a Law Clerk for the Legal Aid Society; as a Judicial Clerk; and as a Constitutional Law Tutor. He passed the Nevada Bar at the end of his second year of law school. He briefly worked in private practice in Las Vegas before moving to Nye County in 1993 and working as a Deputy District Attorney for seven years.

Judge Lane was first elected judge in 2000, re-elected in 2002, ran unopposed in 2008, re-elected in 2014, re-elected in 2020, and is currently running for re-election in 2026. He was the first person to serve in the new district judicial seat in Pahrump. The Fifth Judicial District served Nye, Mineral and Esmeralda counties, until Mineral County was transferred.

Judge Lane has conducted court for criminal, civil, family, juvenile, probate, DCFS child welfare, child support, and drug court. He started the Drug Court program in 2002.

He has served on several State Boards including Judicial Ethics, Judicial Education, and Specialty Courts. He has taken judicial education and master degree courses in Handling Capital cases, Scientific Evidence and Expert Testimony, Criminal Evidence, Sentencing, Specialty Courts and many more.

Judge Lane has served on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce, in Rotary, worked to start CASA and ACORN, and other political, charitable and church work, including special needs. He and his wife Samantha have four children and four grandchildren (so far). The family is busy with church, school, piano, martial arts, and more.

Judge Lane plans to retire at the end of his next term in December of 2032.

Over the last 25 years, Judge Lane has taken over 250 continuing Judicial education classes. He attends Judicial conferences every year. He attends Judicial seminars, and took master degree classes at the Judicial college in Handling Capital cases, Scientific Evidence and Expert Testimony, Criminal Evidence, Sentencing, Specialty Courts and many more.
